Great British Bake Off Is Back: How To Host Your Own Bake Off Event

Ever since The Great British Bake Off hung up its oven gloves at the BBC towards the end of last year, we’ve been eagerly anticipating what the rebirth of the show will bring.

GBBO shocked die-hard viewers in 2016 when they announced they wouldn’t be returning to the BBC, instead signing a new contract with rivals Channel 4. Judges left, and fans were left distraught — after all, we British take our telly very seriously!

Now the dust has settled, we’re all finally ready to accept that the newer, adapted Bake Off is better than no Bake Off at all.

So, what’s changed?

We’ve waved goodbye to Mary Berry and the gang and have welcomed a number of fresh faces including cooking royalty Prue Leith and funny-man Noel Fielding, who have joined Bake-Off original Paul Hollywood on the new judging panel. The rest of show has largely remained the same — same name, same format; just a handful of new faces!

Will they, and the newest batch of contestants, rise to the occasion? We can’t wait to see how the series pans out!

Here at Flamingo Gifts we thought we’d celebrate the return of our favourite cooking show with some top tips on how you can create you own Bake Off event or celebration.

Get Cooking!

It goes without saying that baking is a must if you’re looking to host a Bake Off themed event. Whether you’re having a couple of the girls round to watch the show or you’re planning a bigger event, baking is a fantastic way to get everyone involved — and means you all end up with a number of tasty treats to enjoy, which is always a bonus!

If you’re looking for baking inspiration for a competitive event, the coconut frosted sponge cake from our Easter Baking and Recipe Ideas post remains our firm favourite!

If you’re planning a more relaxed GBBO event at home, gather some friends and each pick a cake from the Flamingo Gifts Mug Cakes Book. With 40 foolproof recipes that all take less than 10 minutes to make, even the most amateur of cooks will be able to create something wonderful! As an added Bake Off touch, why not invest in the Bring On The Bake Off Mug to really drive the theme home?

Get Competitive

While cooking for fun is all well and good, hosting a competitive event is a great way to get in the Bake Off spirit!

Come up with categories on which your baked goods can be rated, such as ‘Tastiest Cake’, ‘Best Decorated Cake’ and ‘Best Savoury’. If you’re hosting a bigger affair, for example a charity event, offering a prize for the winners is a certain way to encourage involvement — baking and kitchen accessories will make excellent prizes for any budding bakers! Once the top creations have been crowned, you can raise money for your chosen charity by hosting a bake sale for the remaining goods.

For an at-home Bake Off you can simply judge amongst yourself, then settle in and enjoy your wares with a nice cup of tea or a cheeky glass of bubbly!

Hang Out The Bunting

Great British Bake Off – the clue is in the name! A Bake Off event wouldn’t be complete without some good old British inspired decor.

While hiring a full marquee may not be within everyone’s means, there are a number of smaller things you can do to ensure your event feels suitably British.

Keep an eye out for vintage inspired decor for your home – quaint bunting, floral tablecloths and rustic wall decor are all ideal for creating a Bake Off-esque atmosphere.

If you’re hoping to make the most out of the late summer sun by hosting a Bake Off garden party, dress your outdoor space for the occasion with garden accessories. From pretty Orla Kiely tealight holders to camping chairs for your guests, you can discover a number of options at Flamingo Gifts that guarantee to take your Bake Off event to the next level.

Whether you’re planning a big event or a smaller celebration of all things Bake Off, across the home accessories range at Flamingo Gifts you can discover a number of accessories to help create a memorable themed occasion.

If you’re lucky enough to have cakes and treats leftover, Sass and Belle and Happy Jackson offer a number of stylish lunch bags, picnic bags and lunch boxes that will keep your baked goods fresh until the munchies strike again!
